ABLE is a community-based program designed to meet the needs of adult students with disabilities who are transitioning from the school environment. All students enrolled in the ABLE program are dual-enrolled in one of the high schools in Natrona County. These schools serve as the “home base” for ABLE students.

Students participate in an individualized curriculum designed to meet their unique needs during the IEP special education process.

Families can access school-based support services through each coordinating high school campus program as needed. The ABLE program also works closely with community agencies such as the Workforce Investment Act and and the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation as well as Casper College and numerous DD Waiver providers in the Casper community.

Students in the ABLE program usually spend three to four days a week in the community. They engage in traditional learning activities in the classroom, as well as authentic experiences such as cooking, riding public transportation, working, shopping, using community resources, and engaging in recreation and leisure outings.

Students in the ABLE program obtain memberships to the Casper Recreation Center, where they participate in weekly fitness activities. Students also engage in a variety of lifetime sport activities in the community setting based on their individual interest.

ABLE students receive occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, social work, vision therapy, deaf/hard of hearing therapy and district transportation services as needed. Special education case management services are provided by the ABLE coordinator.
