Opportunity for Feedback – Recalibration Recommendations released by APA

We would like to take this time to provide you with an update in regards to recent Recalibration work by the Wyoming State Legislature and share information on opportunities for all interested stakeholders to provide feedback.

In the Wyoming K-12 Education Funding Deficit White Paper, the State of Wyoming Legislature introduced reductions and/or modifications to the current funding model as one of the five options to address the $360-400 million shortfall in K-12 education funding. A Select Committee on School Finance Recalibration was established to undertake a study of the state educational program and recalibrate the education resource block grant funding model.

Earlier this year, Augenblick, Palaich and Associates (APA) was chosen by the select committee to conduct a review of the current Wyoming Educational Program and a recalibration of the current Funding Model.

The two questions asked of the consultants were “What is an adequate education?” and “How much does it cost?

APA has released a 552-page draft of their recommendations, which can be found here.

The draft recommendations lack some key pieces of information that hinder districts from estimating funding implications of the proposals. At this time we do not have the ability to accurately estimate the financial impact to NCSD. Further clarification on the recommendations will be provided by APA at the committee’s January 23-24, 2018 meeting.

NCSD encourages all interested stakeholders to provide feedback in response to recommendations by the study team.
