NCSD Food Service Updates

September 15, 2020

The United States Department of Agriculture has extended the Free Meals for Kids program through December 31, 2020. An extension of the summer meal program, this opportunity allows for all NCSD schools to continue serving breakfast and lunch at no cost to all students.

The NCSD Food Service Department has been providing free food service to all students since the onset of school building closures in March of 2020, this will continue forward until December 31, 2020, at the direction of the USDA. All NCSD families, including NCSD Virtual students, are eligible and there are no income or application requirements.

“As a District, we want to ensure students are provided with the tools they need to be successful in school and that starts with having a great breakfast and lunch to fuel their learning,” shared Executive Director of Human Resources and District Services, Steve Ellbogen. “We are incredibly grateful to live in a community that supports students, education, and each other. We appreciate the continued hard work of our NCSD Food Service, Transportation, Warehouse, and school teams who have been working diligently since the onset of COVID-19 to ensure successful deployment of this program.”

A la carte’ items are not included in the program but will be available, as applicable, for student purchase. Additional servings of fruits and vegetables remain free for students.

As a reminder, the Natrona County School District participates in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program. This program provides free and reduced-price meals to students who qualify throughout the entire year. Families are encouraged to fill out the Family Application for Free and Reduced-Price Meals. The application can be completed throughout the school year but it is recommended to be completed before October 1, 2020, prior to the above-mentioned program end date.

We want to thank our students, staff, parents, school families, and the community as we all work together to ensure continued student academic success and health and safety for all. This dedicated community partnership enables continued student success and educational excellence in the Natrona County School District.
