NCSD Budget Process Update

On April 29th, 2019, the Natrona County School District Board Budget Development Committee met to review the Fiscal Year 2020 Conceptual Budget plan. The budget sets the financial framework for the district to meet its strategic goals. The Board Budget development process is guided by the following priorities:

  • Maintain a focus on student learning and the Districts strategic goals, funding essential functions, and services
  • Achieve operational efficiencies and effectiveness
  • Maintain a competitive compensation package
  • Maintain facilities to avoid the effects of deferred maintenance and ensure safe and secure environments

The Natrona County School District, in partnership with all stakeholders, is committed to providing a quality education to all students while remaining fiscally responsible with the funds provided to us by our state and local community. NCSD utilizes a “decentralized” budget process which allows for funds to be allocated to each school. This process allows for the school budget team, composed of various stakeholders, to prioritize and utilize the funds in the best way possible for their individual school.

As part of the FY20 Conceptual Budget Plan, it is recommended by the Board Budget Committee to move forward with the School Allocations recommendation, this recommendation will be voted on by the Board of Trustees during their July Budget hearing meeting.

The Natrona County School District Board of Trustees is committed to ensuring all students in Natrona County have the resources and material available to them to come to school ready to learn. Beginning with the next academic year, parents and guardians will no longer be required or asked to purchase school supplies or pay classroom/school fees, for their students. The Board of Trustees has allocated additional funds to each school, in the amount of $45 dollars per student, to purchase school supplies for all students.

Additionally, we recognize the great importance of community in our schools. Our families and community members greatly contribute to the schools each day and are truly our partners in education. The Natrona County School District Board of Trustees will eliminate charging admissions to school Athletic and Activity events beginning with the next academic year.  Kelly Walsh High School and Natrona County High School budgets will be supplemented by $75,000 per year to offset the cost.

The Natrona County School District Board of Trustees greatly appreciates our valued staff, parents, and community for their partnership in assisting us towards our mission to empower every learner to grow, excel and be a successful contributor to the local and global community.

On July 10th, 2019 the Natrona County School District No. 1 Annual Budget for the Fiscal Year 2020 will be voted on by the Board of Trustees.
