Jessie Winford, CCA educator and club sponsor, developed this new after-school club to provide learning opportunities for students in designing eye-catching and informative communications: “Our students are more engaged, and there is an increase in school pride. There is also an increase in the general knowledge of everything that happens in our school.”
As each student creates their flyers and graphics, the group enjoys collaborating and assisting one another in developing and practicing new skills. Hadley shared, “My favorite part of being in the club is spending time with my friends. I really like working on videos together, and watching them after, and seeing how much fun everyone is having.”
Aiden enjoys experimenting with new creative design techniques in the fun after-school club. “My favorite part of being in this club is being with my friends, but I also like learning how to edit with Canva because there is so much I can do.”
Students are honing their creative talents and enhancing their communication and leadership skills, as their content is often featured on school-based communication platforms. "When I learned that what we create would be shared on the Facebook page, I thought it was so cool, and I wanted to see what I could do," shared Paisley. "After a few weeks, I truly fell in love with this club."
Ms. Winford is incredibly proud of her students’ success: “I love when they finish their flyer, and I go to post it; we all get very excited. Generally, the parents will like the post within half an hour. I am picturing their celebration at home when that happens.” As the club continues to grow, students will work on expanding their skills to include more video production, as well as conducting interviews with both students and staff.
