Their innovative app is designed to help students match their personality and interests with scholarships tailored to their academic goals. With a vision to support their peers, these two students developed a tool that simplifies the scholarship search process and helps its users find opportunities that align with their strengths and aspirations. This incredible project highlights their computer science skills, academic excellence, and commitment to helping others. KWHS Computer Science educator Becky Byer was ecstatic to learn two of her students earned this prestigious award, “I am so proud of Haylie and Emerson. They created an app that is meaningful and relevant for themselves and their peers. Their ingenuity and hard work make them a standout!”
The Congressional App Challenge, hosted annually by the U.S. House of Representatives, encourages students to learn to code while inspiring them to excel in computer science. Students develop and utilize their innovative technology skills to creatively design an original app submitted to a prestigious panel of judges. Congresswoman Harriet Hageman's staff members presented the KWHS students with their well-earned award, recognizing and celebrating their creativity, ingenuity, and commitment to educational excellence.
"This remarkable achievement highlights Emerson and Haylie’s dedication, creativity, and commitment to excellence for themselves and others. Excellence is not just about what you do in the classroom but how you take initiative, collaborate, and lead in every aspect of your education. We are incredibly proud to call them Trojans, and we look forward to seeing their continued success!” shared Mike Britt, KWHS Principal.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that Kelly Walsh students have claimed victory in the Congressional App Challenge—a testament to the talent, dedication, and ingenuity of KWHS Trojans.
