Kelly Walsh High School Students Shine With Scientific Success at Science OLYMPIAD!

The Science Olympiad provides students with opportunities to explore their interests in science, develop teamwork and leadership skills, and foster a passion for learning. Regarded as one of the premier science competitions for students in the United States, it promotes STEM education and inspires the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators.

Students prepare for the Science Olympiad by studying specific topics, conducting research, and practicing relevant skills. Their hard work culminates in regional, state, and national tournaments, where teams compete against each other to demonstrate their scientific expertise and vie for awards and recognition. The Science Olympiad competitions are renowned for their challenging events spanning various scientific disciplines and serve as a platform for students to showcase their knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

KWHS students competed in the WY Olympiad amongst numerous talented and determined teams. A competitive science tournament for middle and high school students, the competition included categories in Ecology, Astronomy, Chemistry Lab, Detector Building, Forensics, Dynamic Planet, Optics, Codebusters,  Air Trajectory, Tower, Anatomy and Physiology,  Wind Power, Forestry, Experimental Design, Write it do it, Fossils, Fermi Questions, Flight, and Scrambler. The competition was fierce, but the students’ collaborative teamwork, problem-solving, and hard work paid off, and the KWHS Trojans achieved a triumphant victory for the third year in a row!

As champions of the 2024 WY Science Olympiad, the KWHS team worked diligently to perfect their skills and scientific expertise in preparation for the summer National Science Olympiad competition. Events in the National Science Olympiad vary widely, ranging from written tests and laboratory experiments to building challenges and performance tasks, and included four additional events from the state level: Robot Tour, Disease Detectives, Microbe Mission, and Geologic Mapping. Each event is designed to assess different aspects of science and technology, encouraging students to develop a well-rounded understanding of scientific concepts and principles.

The achievements of these high school students stand as a testament to their dedication, passion, and relentless pursuit of scientific excellence. Congratulations to the Kelly Walsh High School Science Olympiad team on their outstanding success!
