NCHS School Spirit Shines With Mustang Olympics Fundraiser!

Student Council hosted Mustang Olympics, a week of activities and events to raise funds for Make-A-Wish Wyoming. Students and staff participated in exciting and friendly competitions against each other, including football, volleyball, and basketball.

Student Council President, Yasmine Vega-Jerding, led the planning with the goal in mind of showcasing the culture of excellence at NCHS, “It is important to host these events because not only does it bring community, students, and teachers together but it also encourages kids to get involved and be part of something for a good cause like Make-A-Wish.” During her time with Student Council, Yasmine is proud of the positive growth in the council and herself, “I feel I have really become the woman I am today through my leadership and skills learned through student council. We work very hard to build inclusivity and make sure that everyone is heard and acknowledged. We do our best to grow attendance in clubs, activities, sporting events, and other fun things.”

Throughout the week of activities, they shared information about Make-A-Wish Wyoming, which creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses while raising over $3,500 for the organization.

NCHS student council provides students an opportunity to develop leadership by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects. In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, the student council is the student body's voice, helping to share student ideas, interests, and concerns with the school-wide community.

Our mission of student council is to really focus on the fact that it is a student-led council and that we, as students, have the most influence on our peers, teachers, and community members, so we should be the ones leading,” shared Tristy Thomas, Student Council member. “It's important to give back to the community and our school because it gives us so much. We are fortunate enough to go to a great school where we are given so many opportunities that when we get the chance to give back, it’s important to us that we take it and do the best we can.”

Who won each game? Well, we lost count. But, with all the laughter and memories made, it seems everyone walked away a winner…though, if you ask the students, their exceptional math skills add up to… “students.”
