has implemented the Success For All (SFA) reading program
K-6
- Students are
flexibly grouped across grade levels 1-6
- Kindergarten
uses SFA reading in a self-contained
classroom
- Students are
assessed informally and formally every quarter
- Students are
regrouped according to success levels on quarterly
assessments
Time
- Reading is 90
minutes everyday
- 1-3 grades
1:00-2:30 (reading levels range from Roots/1st to
4.2)
- 4-6 grades
9:00-10:30 (reading levels range from 4.1 to
8+)
- Based on a
weekly instructional
model
Homework
- All students are
encouraged to read 20 minutes every night and turn in a
Read & Respond form signed by parents
- Parents are
encouraged to read with younger students and
participate with older students by asking questions
about their books
- Students read
books of their choice for Read & Respond time for
Book Club activities on Day 5
- Book Club
activities range from puppet shows to videos, based on
their book
- Parents are
encouraged to listen to their child read aloud and
practice fluency, vocabulary and support book club
activities
- Students read
books of their choice at home and complete a book club
activity to extend their reading
