University Park Elementary
Blue Ribbon and a Birthday Cake
After missing AYP five years ago, University Park School re-dedicated itself to improvement. Proudly, the elementary school this year, on its 50th birthday, was named by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School. University Park will be celebrating these two milestones together on Thursday, Dec. 1. University Park is among 304 schools nationwide and the only NCSD school in 2011 to receive the National Blue Ribbon honor based on overall academic excellence or for success in closing achievement gaps. The school credits this success to the dedication of the entire staff in their immersion in professional development, the implementation of Reading First in all grade levels, a strong math program, and the alignment of writing strategies with the state assessments. The school has made AYP in all years since 2005.
University Park invites all past students, teachers and administrators to attend a celebration and open house in Dec. 1 beginning at 5 p.m.
