7th Grade Thursday Letter-August 27, 2009
PROGRESS REPORTS: There will be no progress reports this week. We hope next week your student’s first progress report will be attached.
MEDICATION: ANY medication taken by a student must have a doctor’s note and must be administered here in the office. This includes eye drops, pain reliever, and yes, even cough drops. The request for medication forms are in the office if you need one.
INFINITE CAMPUS: This is a new computer system that the district is using for grading and student information. Soon parents will have the ability to log in and check grades, addresses, phone numbers, and behaviors. Be looking for information in the Thursday Letter concerning this exciting new program.
LUNCHES: We use the cafeteria at Frontier Middle School. When making out a check for lunches, please make it out to FMS. If you put money into your student’s account through the Nutrikids website, it may take up to 10 days to show up in their account. If parents would print off the confirmation page from the website and send it to school, it would be helpful for our cafeteria staff so they know the negative balance is taken care of. Just a reminder as well that it costs $1.75 per transaction. When sending in money to the office as cash or a check, it may take one day to show up in their account.
FUNDRAISING: Information about our first fundraiser will be coming out Friday. This fall our school will be selling Butter Braids. These fundraising opportunities benefit your student by raising money to put into their trip accounts and the Governing Council account which supports our school’s efforts. The students may sell until September 11th. All orders MUST be turned in that day. If your student is not interested in selling, the parent must put a 0 at the bottom and initial. It is an option to fundraise or not. However, student take trips throughout the year with classes and clubs and families will be responsible for any monies due for those trips whether they choose to fundraise or not.
We also have opportunities through Smiths, Safeway, Target credit cards, Albertson’s (Community Partner Cards), and Box Tops for Education to raise money for our school. You may sign up at Smiths to link your card to our school. The office has some Albertson’s Community Partner cards you may just pick up. Box Tops are always welcome and homerooms will be competing against each other.
DRAMA: Practice will start after Labor Day. September practices will be 9/10, 9/17 and 9/24.
We have been working on the basics of singing: Breathing, Posture, Watching, Thinking. On Tuesday of next week we take the orders for the required choir polo shirt. Parents, you specified what size to order on the Chorus Information Sheet. I will double-check sizes before sending in the order.
A new chorus shirt is $15 and is payable on Tuesday, Sept. 1 and for the next two weeks. If there is a financial problem with paying for a shirt, simply send a written note to school. I have loaner shirts that you child may use for this year.
Tryouts continue through Monday. The final list will be posted on Wednesday of next week. I hope your child will audition. If you don’t try, you won’t make it! If you do try, you might.
All who make Select need to keep Friday, September 11 from 3:00 PM until Saturday, September 12 4:00 PM open for the annual Fall Retreat. The retreat will be at Camp WYOBA on Casper Mountain. The cost is $10. We will spend 25 hours getting to know each other and some great music and choreography.
