District Science Fair Results

The Natrona County School District Science Fair was held this past weekend at Verda James Elementary School. Students were eligible to participate in 17 different categories: animal science; behavioral and social sciences; biochemistry; cellular and molecular biology; chemistry; computers; earth and planetary sciences; engineering; electrical and mechanical engineering; materials and bioengineering; energy and transportation; environmental management; environmental sciences; mathematics; medicine and health sciences; microbiology; physics and astronomy; and plant sciences.

A total of 110 students throughout Natrona County and Converse County converged to Casper for the district-wide Science Fair. Forty-six students in the fourth and fifth grades entered projects in the District Elementary Science Fair. Sixty-four students in grades sixth through eighth entered projects in 14 of the 17 eligible categories in the Junior Science Fair.

More than $2,000 in prize money, donated by businesses throughout Casper, was awarded to 28 students from Natrona and Converse counties.

Junior Science Fair first place winners received $100, second place winners received $50 and third place winners received a ribbon. Winning students and their projects will advance to the Wyoming State Science Fair.

Science Fair participants were also judged for special merit awards provided by the Charles E. Wolf Award and the Natrona County Education Association (NCEA).

The Natrona County School District Science Fair was supported by donations from Automation Electronics; Casper Medical Imaging & Outpatient Radiology; Casper Planetarium; Comtronix; Dr. Keim, MK Sports; Emissary Pharmacy; Farleigh Oil Properties; Linc Energy; NAPA Auto Parts; Natrona County Education Association (NCEA); Porter, Muirhead, Cornia & Howard; Society of Petroleum Engineers – Wyoming; Toy Town; True Drilling; Wyoming Space Grant; Wyoming Behavioral Institute; Wheels and Wings; and the NCSD Athletics & Activities Department.
