Vision: Building a Culture of Excellence!

Dean Morgan School operates under the “Eight Keys of Excellence” with the goal of empowering all learners and addressing the needs of the whole child. The school has maintained a long tradition of excellence while focusing on preparing students to be successful citizens.  Parents, students and staff members are encouraged to actively participate in the operation of the school. Dean Morgan’s schedule is an alternating block schedule, creating more opportunities for students to enroll in different courses each semester with longer instructional blocks of learning time. Efforts of continuous improvement have guided decisions to increase math instructional minutes and reduce class size in several areas. Dean Morgan commits 35 minutes daily to a school wide systems of intervention and enrichment to meet the needs of students in a targeted, timely and data driven manner through the implementation of ASPIRE. Visible and accessible staff, a variety of counseling services, academic excellence and character education principles create a sense of purpose and unity within our learning community. Furthermore, Dean Morgan builds an environment conducive to meaningful learning, school-wide diversity, safety, proactive communication and healthy lifestyles.

Programs

During a Dean Morgan career, students are required to enroll in core subjects which include reading, language arts, math, science, social studies. Additionally required electives include physical education, computer applications and life skills. Differentiated levels of classes support students performing below, at and above grade level in core subjects. Academic support includes tutoring in math and reading. Academic challenge courses are also an option in math, reading, language arts, science and social studies. Placement in these courses is dependent upon assessment results and historical academic success in one or more areas. Students may enroll in elective courses including: American Sign Language (ASL), art, band, choir, cultural studies, digital photography, drafting, family consumer science, guitar, healthy choices, leadership, orchestra, Spanish, technology, and woodshop.

Activities

Clubs and activities are developed around student interests and include: American Sign Language, ASL Sign Fest, art, book club,Challenge Day, classic rock, cooking, family consumer science, Gear Up, Geography Bee, guitar, History Day, math, Morgan Jazz Band, Morgan Mentors, Morgan Singers, music, National Junior Honor Society, recycling, spelling team, theater, trick shot, video games, video & media production, yearbook, and a variety of other activities. Athletics include basketball, football, volleyball, track and field, wrestling, cross-country running, Nordic skiing, soccer, and swimming.

Hours

Classes at Dean Morgan start at 8 a.m. and conclude at 2:45 p.m. Activities are available before, during and after school. Boys’ and Girls’ Club partners with Dean Morgan to provide after school supervision and activities  for our students.
