“Focusing on our school and district strategic plans, we emphasize high expectations for student learning; we engage students in 21st Century skills; we celebrate achievement, and we create a safe and healthy environment. CYMS is dedicated to student growth, achievement, and citizenship.”

CY Middle School is the home of the Cyclones! CYMS offers interdisciplinary, grade level CORE teams, creating smaller learning communities that help students transition from elementary to middle school. The small teams also allow for better home-school communication.

Students are enrolled in CORE language arts, math, science, social studies, and physical education. The Summit Program and Destination ImagiNation are designed for academically high-achieving students. Students choose from a wide variety of elective classes to match their skills and interests.

The CY Gifted and Talented Program offers self-contained classroom opportunities for identified GT students. Instruction is individualized, problem-based, project-based, and integrated to encourage critical thinking and problem solving.

CY offers an after-school Bridges Extended Day Program for extra support with standards, homework, classwork, missing work and organizational skills.

CY offers an integrated science program. Instead of students learning about life, earth, and physical science at specified grade levels, the three contents are integrated to maximize students’ learning opportunities.

Technology standards are embedded in students’ learning activities across content areas. Students have the opportunity to learn how to use and operate industry standard technology.

Students explore real world connections through pneumatics, agriscience, hospitality and tourism, robotics/gaming, CAD, digital manufacturing, laser technology, rocketry and space, engineering structures, textiles and apparel, TV and film, plastics technology, forestry and natural resources, graphic design, dietetics, marketing, digital audio production, and much more.

CY is designed to capture natural sunlight. A wind turbine provides enough power for student and staff laptops. Social learning spaces for each grade level and the Cyclone Café provide relaxing settings for collaborative work.

Clubs include Anime/Fandom, Art, Fitness, History, Geography, Spelling, Math,

Writing, and Yearbook.  Activities include, FFA, Choir, Flute Choir, Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, Rockestra, Student Council, Robotics, Destination ImagiNation, Drama, Musical Production, and WEB. Athletics include football, basketball, wrestling, volleyball, cheerleading, track, cross-country, Nordic skiing, golf, swimming, and soccer. Extra curricular areas may vary each year based on funding and/or interest.

Classes at CY Middle School start at 7:55 a.m. and conclude at 2:40 p.m. Activities are available before, during, and after school.
