Families:

Parent involvement is critical to the academic success of students at North Casper. All parents are expected to get involved in their child’s learning at home, encourage their children to read, attend as many school functions as possible, and talk to their child about the value of education.

A parent involvement committee also organizes several family literacy nights throughout the year.

Parent-teacher conferences are held twice a year.

Students use the Saxon Math program to learn the fundamentals of math in an environment that incorporates a lot of practice and repetition of fundamental skills. North Casper has adopted Rigby’s Literacy by Design language arts program to meet the needs of students in reading and writing. This program pairs a combination of whole-class and small-group instruction research-based strategies, focusing on the five essential components of reading: phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Students also use the 6+1 Traits of Writing program to improve their writing skills. Students learn how to be better readers and writers when they are provided quality models of literature, opportunities to practice, and appropriate feedback in an engaging environment.

Students may participate in Science Club, Reading Club and Homework Club. The school also hosts several parent involvement nights.

Fifth-graders may play basketball and volleyball through the Casper Rec Center.

Breakfast is served at 8:10 a.m. daily.

An after-school homework club meets from 3:20 to 4:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Teaching assistants also provide tutoring before school, after school and at recess. A three-week jump start summer school is available to help students brush up on academic skills.

Buses are available to take students to the Boys & Girls Club after school.

Enrichment opportunities are available for students, and a variety of services are available for both special education and at-risk students.

North Casper also is the magnet school for the elementary level English as a Second Language program in the district.

North Casper has two preschool programs. Kindergarten Prep preschool targets students who will be entering kindergarten at North Casper the following school year. All Ready preschool grants admission based on income eligibility. Morning preschool classes are from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., and afternoon preschool classes are from 12:35 to 3:20 p.m.
