Families:

The Bar Nunn Parent Teacher Association (PTA) provides assistance and programs that benefit our students and our school. Visitors are always welcome at our meetings. We hope everyone will join and become active in the Bar Nunn PTA. Our PTA pays for the cost of only $3 per family. So all you do is sign up. The PTA hosts activities such as the carnival, popcorn sales and Valentine's Cake Raffle.

Parents also are encouraged to be involved with their child's schooling. Students are expected to read 20 minutes per night with confirmation from parents. In addition, parents are invited to visit and participate in classrooms, school activities and family reading and math nights. Parents of preschoolers at Bar Nunn are expected to volunteer in the preschool program.

Weekly information packets will be sent home to parents on Thursdays.

Bar Nunn is a Success For All school, using the nationally recognized reading program and the Math Wings math component. The program includes frequent review of student progress, reading tutors, preschool and kindergarten curricula and a family support team. Bar Nunn also uses the BEST behavior program to facilitate positive peer and adult interactions. The school has additional staff to teach social skills and work with individual students, as needed.

Bar Nunn students may participate in Lego League, Spelling Bee, Science/Social Studies Club, Student Council, Homework Lab and Reading Lab.

Fifth- and sixth-graders may play basketball and volleyball through the Casper Rec Center.

Classes at Bar Nunn run from 8:50 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Before-school activities begin at 8 a.m., and after-school activities are available until 4:15 p.m.

Breakfast is served before school.

Special education programs are available for those students who show a need according to local, state, and federal guidelines. Bar Nunn has one resource room for those students who meet the criteria. In addition, Bar Nunn has two specialized district Behavior and Social Skills classrooms for students with behavior problems that interfere with their learning.

Students have access to tutors in reading and math. The school also offers services from a social worker, speech/language pathologist, nurse, Central Wyoming Counseling Center counselor and other therapists.

Preschool is available for children who turn 3 by Sept. 15, 2010. Morning preschool is from 8:50 to 11:30 a.m., and afternoon preschool is from 12:50 to 3:30 p.m. Preschool students are screened for pre-academic skills. The staff discusses student needs and prioritizes admission based on those needs. This process is completed in May of each year for the next school year.
