NCSD has learned of Hand Foot and Mouth Disease reports in some schools.

Hand Foot and Mouth Disease is a common viral illness usually affecting children younger than 5 years of age, but it may occur at any age.

Here are some signs and symptoms to look for:

  • Fever
  • Reduced Appetite
  • Sore Throat
  • Painful sores in the mouth, which can progress to blisters
  • A rash with spots that may also progress to blisters that appear on the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet.
  • The rash may also be seen on the knees, elbows and other areas of the body.

Parents should contact their health care provider if these symptoms occur with their child.
