Mills Elementary Collecting Items for School Celebration Event

Mills Elementary will be hosting a public celebration event Friday, May 12 to recognize the students, staff members, and community that have made Mills Elementary an important part of the town of Mills and the Natrona County School District since the 1920s.

Mills Elementary will be closing at the conclusion of the 2016-17 school year as part of a planned move to the new Journey Elementary building (2401 Hickory St., Casper).

The celebration of Mills Elementary coincides with a number of other events on May 12 at the school. The following events are taking place:

7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Annual Mother’s Day Garden and Craft Sale

8:00 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. Grandparents’ Breakfast

9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Community Celebration of Mills Elementary

1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. “Familiar Faces” Staff Reunion

In order to give Mills Elementary the best send-off possible, we need your help! If you attended, worked at, or had any connection to Mills, we want to hear from you. We’re collecting memories (written or otherwise recorded), photos, memorabilia, or any other Mills Elementary items to be displayed during the celebration event. If you can contribute, please contact Mills Elementary Office Manager Jillian Dike at (307) 253-3700 or visit the Mills office (420 2nd St., Mills). Any items that are loaned to Mills will be promptly returned to their owners.

In addition to the celebration event, Mills/Journey Elementary is currently raising money for student-requested construction items in the new Journey building that are not funded by the Wyoming State Facilities Department. The requested items are:

  • A water section in the outdoor classroom, where students can build dams and observe erosion
  • A sensory garden section in the outdoor classroom, where nature is used to stimulate all 5 senses
  • An indoor tube slide from the second floor to the first floor, which will be used for student incentives and celebrations

The school is raffling off two awesome prizes, selling engraved paver bricks to be placed at Journey, and accepting any other donations. Interested parties can find all of these opportunities by visiting this webpage: https://journeyelementary.rallyup.com, or by calling the school office.
